Every summer the Hamilton County Public Defender Office offers a summer internship primarily directed to law students who have completed their second year in law school. The Summer Intern Program, which runs from May 22 through end of July 28, begins with an extensive in-house training program and then rotates the interns through a series of assignments all of which are supervised and many of which allow the students to advocate on behalf of clients before judges and magistrates. Students also attend a weekly training meeting focused exclusively trial advocacy. The Training Coordinator supervises our Summer Law Intern Program with the assistance of all department heads and individual trial attorneys in whose units the students work.
The Hamilton County Public Defender Office will consider the application of students who have completed their second year studies. (We do offer a limited number of internship positions to first year students who have a relevant work background and who are committed to public defender work.) The application process is rolling.
