Ms. Pedersen is a 2012 graduate of the Salmon P. Chase College of Law. She was admitted to practice in Ohio in 2013.
Ms. Pedersen, attended law school part time while working full time at the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati. She began her career at the YWCA as a contracted educator providing healthy relationship programs in schools. In 2006 she was promoted to Sexual Assault Intervention Coordinator. In this position Ms. Pedersen coordinated sexual assault services for Adams, Brown, and Clermont counties in Ohio. These services included 24-hour hospital accompaniments, 24-hour crisis hotline, crisis intervention meetings, court advocacy, survivor support groups, trainings for community members and service providers, community awareness campaigns, and educational programs. In 2007 she was again promoted to Prevention Education Coordinator. In this position she oversaw prevention education services in the same three county area. Ms. Pedersen spent six years coordinating and developing educational programs for schools, community groups and professionals. Her work included implementing sexual assault prevention awareness campaigns, providing House Bill 10 and 19 compliance trainings, and facilitating child sexual assault prevention trainings with professional and community groups. At the end of her time at the YWCA, Julie served as an expert presenter at various regional and statewide meetings and conferences on the topics of sexual assault, teen dating violence, and prevention education.
In April 2013, Ms. Pedersen started with the Hamilton County Public Defender’s Office as an Attorney Guardian ad Litem. As an Attorney Guardian ad Litem she represents children in dependency court proceedings. In addition to working in the court, Ms. Pedersen also serves as an advocate for children within the community, including in schools and in residential placement. To provide the best advocacy for children Ms. Pedersen also communicates and coordinates with service providers and family members who are also involved in the child’s life
